‘Old’ experienced trumpet iconoclast Scott ‘Tinky’ Tinkler broadened his profile considerably when performed with U.S. pianist Jason Moran at the MIJF last year, followed by a tour of Asia and the Middle East with the groundbreaking, continent-spanning collaboration, Chiri, which brings him and Australian improvisational leader/drummer Simon Barker together with Bae Il Dong, a master of the Korean p'ansori singing tradition. In recent year his main outlets have been the Antripodean Collective, as well as some solo performances. So it is pleasing to see his return as leader of a new group he has formed with ‘fresh young talent’. All in their 20's, with musical vitality and ‘courage beyond their years’, Marc Hannaford (piano), Sam Pankhurst (bass) and Harry Shaw-Reynolds (drums) make up a unit which is sure to produce an evening of incendiary music. Playing all original music by Tinkler’s from times past, present and future, be prepared to be taken on a journey of rhythmic and melodic excursions.
