Daniel Gassin presents his Sextet tonight as a fitting finale to his Yamaha feature artist series, and also as a farewell gig at Bennetts Lane before moving to Paris in June.
The band's debut album (self-titled) was nominated for Best Independent Jazz Album at the 2011 Independent Music AIR Awards. The track "Banff Song" from the album was nominated for a Bell Award in 2012 in the category of "Best Australian Jazz Song of the Year."
With the stellar lineup of Pat Thiele (trumpet), Tim Wilson (alto), Remco Keijzer (tenor), Daniel Gassin (piano), Ben Robertson (bass), and Craig Simon (drums), the Sextet will perform mainly original music by the leader, as well as a suite of pieces by current French pianist Baptiste Trotignon.
In 2008 he was selected to participate in the Jazz & Creative Music Workshop in Banff, Canada. In the same year, the Daniel Gassin Trio released its second album, “Crossover” recorded with Mal Stanley for ABC Jazztrack.
The Daniel Gassin Sextet performed at the 2011 Wangaratta International Jazz Festival, and their debut album was nominated for Best Independent Jazz Album at the 2011 Independent Music AIR Awards.
