“Galaxstare” (formerly Richard Maegraith Band) are thrilled to launch their new album 'a time, times and half a time' four years after their critically acclaimed debut, 'Free Running' at the Bennetts Lane on Sat April 28th, 2012.
Tenor saxophonist Richard Maegraith continues to make his mark on the Sydney jazz scene as both a bandleader of this excellent ensemble and as a sideman with many fine jazz, latin and world music artists, including James Morrison, Sydney All Star Big Band, Mike Nock, Jeff Duff, Lily Dior as well as collaborative project Amphibious. In tonight's performance he brings with him the talents of Kristin Berardi (vocals), Tim Firth (drums) Jonathan Zwartz (bass) and Gary Daley (accordion, organ and rhodes).
The band's first release, Free Running (2007, Jazzgroove Records), received rave reviews from around the world.
‘times and half a time’ is a live recording album at the Sound Lounge that captures the band in full flight, stretching musical boundaries and displaying a highly interactive version of modern jazz, drawing on electronica, soul, world and avant-garde influences.
Jepke Gousmit from Kinetic Jazz Festival : 'They set out crystal clear brushstrokes of sound that retained a perfect softness and ease. How difficult is it to marry great strength with utter subtlety, and great force with pure gentleness? Well, somehow they did. Lines and layers overlapped, merged and blurred, swirling into a vast velvet canvass'.
