Brisbane-based vibraphonist James Whiting (seen recently with vocalist Elly Hoyt) makes his Melbourne debut as leader, launching his debut album "Burbank", which was recorded in New York in 2010 with American drummer Jon Wikan, and three NYC-based expatriates: German saxophonist Stefan Schmid, and the Australian pair of pianist Steve Newcomb and bassist Sam Anning. Whiting has toured Australia, New Zealand and the USA extensively as a performer and educator (with a Masters in Music). Along the way, he has been fortune to receive expert tuition from some of the worlds leading jazz vibraphonists including Joe Locke, Ed Saindon, Dave Samuels and Stefon Harris. He will be performing originals with Sam Keevers (piano), Philip Rex (bass) and Darryn Farrugia (drums).
