The Jamie Oehlers Quartet is touring Australia to promote Jamie's latest release, "Smoke and Mirrors" which features the extraordinary talents of U.S. drummer Ari Hoenig.
To perform these originals tenor saxophonist Oehlers (winner of the 2007 "Bell" Award for Jazz Artist of the Year, as well as both the 2007 and 2005 "Bell" Awards for Best Contemporary Jazz Albums) has assembled what he describes as the "best young jazz talent Australia has to offer" to join him in Tal Cohen (piano), Jacob Evans (drums), and Sydney's Phil Stack (National Jazz Bass Award winner).
This quartet has been playing together for a few years now and is recognised as one of the most dynamic, energetic and creative ensembles in Australia, as evidenced by their inspiring performance with U.S. bassist Rob Hurst at the opening night of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
The material includes everything from hard swinging contemporary bop, to drum and bass grooves, sensitive ballads and everything in between.
