Formed in 2002, the Quintet of Eugene Ball (trumpet), Geoff Hughes (guitar), Nick Haywood (acoustic bass), Phil Noy (alto & baritone sax) and Allan Browne (percussion) have produced three acclaimed albums. Their latest album saw the line-up augmented by Marc Hannaford (piano) to present the music written and recorded by the ABC's Mal Stanley to accompany Conjuror, Browne's book of poetry and accompanying CD. The extempore/ Jazzhead production has received strong critical acclaim (four and a half stars in both The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald).
"What a beautiful array of tunes from Browne and band members, ranging from sunlit, playful bop to a more contemporary euphoria; Browne is one of the most vital creative forces in Australia" - John Clare, The Sydney Morning Herald
"The poems and the new album sit easily together, like an Henri Rousseau painting and the music of Eric Satie, and the confluence is sealed by some poems having musical settings" - John Shand, The Sydney Morning Herald
