Yvette Johansson exudes all the flair and elegance that great jazz vocalists of the past have founded their craft upon.
Her range, both vocally and stylistically, points to her versatility, confidence and inspiration and her work has gained her an enviable and respected place in the Australian jazz music scene. Her dynamic and charismatic performances weave a charming tapestry of insight and entertainment upon the canvas of her technique as she invokes concoctions of such luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Blossom Dearie, Astrud Gilberto, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Doris Day, and even Lou Rawls.
Yvette is a regular performer at many East-Coast jazz festivals including Noosa, Melbourne Jazz, and the Queenscliff Music Festival, and performs frequently at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club where she presents an intimate and dynamic show for her dedicated audience. Yvette often sings in original languages including Portuguese, French, Spanish and even Swedish, and she effortlessly traverses the genres of Argentinian Tango, Big Band Swing, Blue-Grass, Funk, Motown and Pop. But these diverse skills coalesce into a rich, agile and engaging treatment of jazz.
Having long emulated the mastery of some of history's greatest vocalists, Yvette is now returning to her signature mixture of sensuality and sensitivity and applying her talent to songs of her own creation. If you're lucky you may catch glimpses of her original material at tonight's performance.
