Emerging pianist/composer Nat Bartsch (winner of the 2010 Melbourne Prize for Music Development Award) has a distinctive, reflective voice in the Australian music scene. Nat's trio has had outstanding success in recent years, including touring to Japan in 2009 and Europe in 2010, supporting Abdullah Ibrahim's Ekaya in Germany. Her trio has recently received Arts Victoria funding to return to Japan as an all-Australian ensemble in May 2013, to launch their third album.
Nat is joined by the new rhythm section of Tom Lee (double bass) and Daniel Farrugia (drums). They will celebrate the trio's third CD release, To Sail To Sing, over three Thursdays at Bennetts Lane. This album extends the boundaries of the trio's distinctive aesthetic (influenced by introspective indie rock, minimalism and Scandinavian jazz). The residency will begin on 25 April with a special album launch and fundraiser for their upcoming tour to Japan in May. This concert will feature special guest Kieran Hensey (tenor saxophone).
Come and celebrate Nat Bartsch Trio's long-awaited new release, and an exciting year ahead!
