Following his debut Australian tour in 2006, New York-based alto saxophonist, composer, producer and educator Greg Osby makes an overdue return. who has made an indelible mark on contemporary jazz as a leader of his own ensembles and as a guest artist with other acclaimed jazz groups fo the past 20 years. Notable for his innovative approach to composition and performance of original jazz music, Osby is a shining beacon among the current 'retro' generation of jazz musicians. In addition to his exploratory collaborations with contemporaries Steve Coleman, Geri Allen and Cassandra Wilson during the fabled years of M-BASE in the1980s, he has 'apprenticed' with some of the great masters in jazz, including the late Dizzy Gillespie and Woody Shaw, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, The World Saxophone Quartet, and Pat Metheny, a.o., as well as Wynton Marsalis. Like Marsalis, he's 'discovered' some of the next generation's best and brightest, such as Jason Moran and Stefon Harris. After signing with Blue Note Records in 1990 he produced an iconoclastic Blue Note oeuvre that includes 15 project recordings for that label that reflect the pulse of the streets and the language of a generation. They include one with strings (Symbols Of Light); the visionary juxtaposition of legendary elders Andrew Hill and Jim Hall (The Invisible Hand); a two-sax pairing with tenor titan Joe Lovano (Friendly Fire); various acoustic investigations of his structurally rigorous, off-kilter compositions (Art Forum, Further Ado, Zero, Inner Circle); a burning, "bootleg-esque" club performance (Banned In New York); and, St. Louis Shoes and Public, both heady deconstructions of the jazz tradition. In 2008, Osby launched his own label, "Inner Circle Music", which serves as a platform for many of today's brightest artists. From the pulse of the streets and the language of a generation, Osby has sketched numerous musical essays set to a contemporary score using the improvisational nature of Jazz as the connecting thread. Osby will be performing with Paul Grabowsky (piano), Philip Rex (bass) & Niko Schauble (drums), and will perform two sets.

"Osby is among the most appealing alto saxophonists in jazz. Osby has forged a distinctive musical language built on unusual chords, unorthodox turns of phrase and unconventional melodic ideas...Yet, at the same time, his work remains direct and accessible, so that a mainstream audience can embrace it.'
